I counted Emanuel, Jackson, and Lipinski voting to condemn MoveOn.org.

Update: And Phil Hare too.

Update:sorry, Bean also.

Once Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey agreed to accept the provisions of the Motion to Recommit, it became a moot issue anyhow. MoveOn.Org will be able to continue to attack the administration of the WORST PRESIDENT - EVER, and probably find fundraising has become a bi easier for them.

They will be able to offer support next year to many of those Democrats who voted "YEA" on this motion. Those Democrats can accept that support and claim it is sign that in their races their credentials are so superior to those of their opponents that even MoveOn is supporting them, despite their vote against that group.

...will be able to continue to attack the administration of the WORST PRESIDENT - EVER...

They'll be attacking a guy who's not running for relection, and maybe against a guy McCain, who did some attacking himself.

I deleted all the comments not related to how this vote will help or hurt these folks in their races... whether they'll be attacking the worst President ever or not as part of their election strategy is ok...but a debate over who was the worst President isn't in scope.

Otherwsie we go on a huge tagent.
thanks

Bill, this vote was about A NEWSPAPER AD!

3,800 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq and you think the debate should be about a MoveOn ad?

The reason I read Illinoize is because it is often free of national partisan talking points. Except for some of yours.

Pathetic.

Bill,

I think you should delete the entire post. This blog is suppose to be about local and state politics. Shame on you.

Bill Baar 7:44 PM

Where did I ever say the debate should be about the MoveOn ad? (Need my thoughts on that check Dan Kennedy's Media Nation).

Congress passed a Defense Appropriation Bill with an amendment on the ad, and three Illinois Democrats broke from the party and voted with the entire GOP on it.

That seemed noteworthy considering the hits Lipinski is taking here for example, or stuff from Pera over at dKos.

Seems like fair topic for Illinoiz.

I just deleted the stuff on whether or not Jimmy Carter was a good Prez... that seemed headed off topic fast.

Honestly Yes... if the ad true, if the General lying through his teeth after this bloody sacrifice, Democrats need to say so.

The NYT should have made the ad an editorial if that's what Sulzberger believes.

And I haven't seen anyone's talking points to that effect.

It's all me.

Check your headline Bill.

"Honestly Yes... if the ad true, if the General lying through his teeth after this bloody sacrifice, Democrats need to say so."

It took an advertisement for you to draw this conclusion? You must be one of those New York Times subscribers who skips the news stories to see what's on sale at Macy's.

Or you've picked up the meme and are spreading it here.

I wish Rich Miller would delete you as a contributor to this blog. The controversy over MoveOn.org ad, the number of deaths in Iraq, and the NYT have absolutely nothing to do with "stuff that happens in Illinois [or] local politics." Frankly, I see nothing different between neo-con echo chambers like you and MoveOn.org. Spin, spin, spin...

Bill Baar 5:56 AM

Pera's running against Lipinski and saying some tough stuff.

This vote going to be one of the issues.

Illinois not supposed to talk about it?

Seems we certainly should be able too without talking about who was the worse present ever, or whether the ad was even appropriate.

It's the politics of the vote to focus on..

And I don't want to be sitting here in six months with Lipinski telling me, gosh I've been lied too.

I have to agree with anon. Most of Baar's stuff just fills space. No insight, no research. All Baar does is take a newspaper story (usually one bashing Democrats) and toss it out here.

Bill,

Of the three you list... You offer no insight as to why they may have voted that way or how their votes may affect Illinois politics, if at all.

Hence the valid complaints that you're abusing your Illinoize contribution privileges by simply contributing yet another echo to the right-wing echo chamber.

What's next, complaints that none of those three are offering amendments to condemn chickenhawk Rush Limbaugh for his comments disparaging troops who served in Iraq as "phony"? (I won't hold my breath waiting for your post on that topic.)

Bill Baar 7:04 AM

Yes Rob, deliberately without comment. I was more curious what others thought...

I've gone both ways on what I've thought about these three.

Phil Hare also voted for it

Anonymous,  6:53 PM

and Bean...did you even look at the vote???

This will open up the Swift Boat campaign to same standards.

These moveon and Swift Boat both have Section 527 of the U.S. tax code have spent money in Illinois.

What standards should be allowed for these radicals when getting a discount media rate based on a tax law?
