Hackery, not "thuggery" on display at Joliet Junior College

Rich reported yesterday on allegations that a Weller staffer "violently" shoved reporters Mike Flannery (CBS2) and Carlos Hernandez Gomez (CLTV). Apparently, Flannery plans to press charges against the “thug” in question, Jack Dusik. My question is: why hasn’t he done so already? There’s really no reason why he couldn’t have filed a complaint right then and there. My guess is that the JJC police advised Flannery that he should take a few days to cool off.

Why would they do that? I don’t know for sure, but it could be that, after reviewing the tapes themselves (which I understand they did), they realized that Flannery’s account of the episode doesn’t really add up.

Flannery claims that Dusik pushed him down the stairs and then ‘went after’ Gomez. If that were true, you would have seen him making some sort of thrusting movement before he makes contact with Gomez. There are clearly no indications of “shoving” on Dusik’s part.

As for Gomez, Rich has an image capture that, according to him, shows that “the Weller guy leaned hard against Carlos Hernandez Gomez’s throat or upper chest.” Now, if a “large man” leaned hard against my throat, my reaction would include more than standing there looking frustrated about getting bumped out of his spot in the journalistic mosh-pit.

Bottom line: if Dusik is hoping for a post-Hill career as a professional “thug,” he should leave this footage out of his portfolio. And if Flannery doesn't want to be considered a Bush-league reporter who trips down the stairs in a desperate attempt to jam a microphone in someone's face, then he should do the same.

This is the worst job of defending the indefensible I've ever seen.

Pretty pathetic actually.

Speaking of "hackery" ... has anyone noticed that the DuPage County Election Commission web site has been hacked? What does that say about the security of our electronic voting?

It doesn't say anything unless they start voting on the internet.

Would g.o.p. see things the same way if it was a Black Democrats staff member who was involved?

when in doubt, inject race into it.

I thought you were better than that, Carl.

This blog is not worth reading. It pushes out debate and ignores different opinions.

Rich Miller has an axe to grind against certain people. It appears he is very pro Michael Madigan, very pro the Rosemont Crowd, and very pro Jesse White--let alone the adoration of Barack Obama.

I do not know nor like Weller or his thugs, aids, or anywhere in between.

Real thuggery happens all the time in politics. What Mike Noonan said to State Senator Iris Martinez will make Peraica's 62 year old volunteer look like an altar boy but nobody will report on it and Miller will have no outrage or righeous indignation.

Because it is Rich Miller's blog--he can post and take down whatever he wants. But don't than try to pretend to be fair and have a medium for discussion and debate. However, the Sun Times should have a higher standard of journalism and a higher standard of conflict of interest and reflection of reality.

On this case, I was not there. Carlos Hernandez Gomez certainly does look like he is getting a arm to the chest or neck and it doesn't look comftorable.

In terms of the media, I have seen press conferences where they are the agressors and act like animals and create dangerous situations. I can post some on YouTube if you want or remember the Princess Diana debacle with the Paparazzi--but even here and in politics chasing people around, trying to get the first person in, PUSHING, SHOVING, YELLING, HEAVY CAMERAS around.
Dick Kay was one of the worse. There is one guy from FOX who is violent and dangerous who looks like Barack Obama, he is a real nut. So the media can be very abusive to people, push, shove, yell, and create dangerous situations--in the Weller case--I don't know and I don't have the tapes.

In terms of Rich Miller he tries to create stories sometimes where there are none. An example was his editorial against Tony Peraica that was factually innacurate and also really diminished real thuggery in politics that happens more frequently. Rich Miller takes down posts, that are true, that are public domain and don't violate rules against his friends all the time. He even wrote an editorial (for the right candidate that time) for his friend Reily in the 42nd ward, admitting he was his friend. Did Rich Miller even call Peraica for his side of the story? What about all the hit pieces Miller did on Alexi Gianullious?--were those hits for Madigan?

Rich Miller hates Andrew Schock from Peoria. Rich Miller and his dad adore Barack Obama (Tony Rezko and other issues notwithstanding).

The friends of Miller get preferential treatment on this board to pretend to be an objective news and open blog.
But the Sun Times should have a higher standard.

If the Weller aide did wrong--than be punished. If the media created a situation or someone pushed back, well than oh well.

Rich Miller is not objective at all and even make himself a joke.
The media can be abusive in physical situations to get a story, the first question etc.

There is no question that Rich is pushing his own agenda and people. He is just doing so in a way to appear that he is friendly and providing a public service with his blog. It's his blog and he can print anything that he wants. He should just let other people do the same unless their posts are way our of bounds and violate some fair pre-posted guidelines.

I suppose GOP has no problem with this land deal also?

Weller, has reported the full extent of his investment – which is required by congressional ethics rules – on his yearly financial disclosure forms.

At least twice, he listed much lower sale prices for land on official documents in Nicaragua than he listed on congressional forms.

Weller is fighting a subpoena to testify in a criminal case linked to disgraced former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California.

Why would a Republican not want to help the Republican Justice Department?

GOP?

"My guess is that the JJC police advised Flannery that he should take a few days to cool off.

My guess...?

It could be that...?

So your post defending this pack of goof-offs is based on a series of pro-Weller hypotheticals?

And without the slightest hint of irony, you conclude this weak defense of the indefensible by suggesting a long-serving, widely-respected political reporter might be considered "Bush-league."

What a joke.

Mike Flannery is a racist and a embellisher. You can be sure through his over-enthusiatic "journalism" he was responsible for knocking the driver down. Take a close look at the video the aide is trying to block the stairway and Flannery is pushing against the aide and the door jam in pursuit of Weller. When you have no story put yourself in it, trump up what really happened and run with it praying people believe you because your a journalist. Hopefully the police will look at the video and press charges against Flannery. For putting the public in a dangerous situation. He is a HACK!

Rich Miller 12:09 PM

Bilos, unlike yourself, I talked to Carlos who told me that the Weller aide both pushed Flannery and him at the same time. The rest of your comments are ridiculous, considering that Illinoize is a group blog, not my blog. And the other stuff sounds like sour grapes from somebody I may have written something bad about (Cough!PeraicaCough!).

And GOP, I talked to the college's police chief, who told me that no charges were immediately filed because they were reviewing the tapes.

Unknown 8:24 PM

Did anyone see Weller put this land deal money in his pocket? You reporters who report it, are HACKS with liberal bias.

There was a banana peel on the steps, no? Or maybe Flannery did this to make Weller look bad. After all pushing him would look worse then else Weller has ever done.

Who is worse General Ríos Montt Wellers' father-in law or Iranian madman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
