Daily Herald's Editorial on Dillard

I thought the Herald made some good points today,

Last year, voters got fed up with Republicans doing little in Congress other than running roughshod over Democrats, and turned them out of office. Democrats now in power have so far not done much better. We’re not seeing much progress in lawmaking. Nor have we seen Democrats do much reaching across the aisle.

Republicans naturally are irked at Dillard for the means he chose to praise a former fellow legislator. But Republicans — and Democrats — shouldn’t be missing the message in all this.
Now, I'm waiting for Rahm Emanuel or Mike Madigan to do some of those Obama spots.

When are we going to see Blago do an Obama commercial?

I've no doubt Sen. Dillard is reaching out to his media friends for cover like this, as I understand he is feeling the heat. Rightfully, so, in my judgement.

The issue isn't cooperation between parties. The issue is that if you ever had to sit in a room and listen to Dillard drone on defining what it means to be a "real" Republican and telling everyone how to behave, you'd hate the hypocrisy, too.

The real fact is that he is a sanctimonious wind bag who would say or do anything to see his picture or read his name.

Anonymous: Yep. Like he always does. This was inexcusable, though. Mayor Daley may have wanted George Ryan to win in'98, but he cut a perfunctory commercial for Glenn Poshard, BECAUSE HE WAS HIS PARTY'S NOMINEE.* This is how parties operate. (At least the Democrats do, which may be why they are winning some elections.) I know Dillard is no longer County Chairman, but he is still in the State Senate, and has supposedly endorsed John McCain for President. If I were McCain, I would reject his endorsement now.

*And if there had been straight-ticket voting in '98, Peter Fitzgerald would have lost, Judy Topinka would have lost and George Ryan would have been up for three days counting votes.
