Not suprisingly, the abolition editorial fails to address the central question about capital punishment, which is are some crimes so horrific that the death penalty is the only approrpriate punishment? My answer to that is yes, therefore I could never support a ban on capital punishment.

Gish, I don't argue that there are people who deserve the death penalty.
ReplyDeleteI just think Illinois's displayed such a faulty system to deliver Justice, we can't trust Illinois to apply where it's deserved.
These cop abuse stories in Chicago have convinced me. I waffled around for a long time, but the Trib is right.
Judged through the eyes of victims and their families, every homicide is worthy of the death penalty.

I've sat on that side of the table. My best friend was murdered when I was 17 years old.
I would've preferred life in prison to the sentence his killer got: Second Degree Murder, 14 years.
