"Congratulations to the White Sox," Bush said of the World Series champions, "all you longtime White Sox fans and you recent converts."
That drew laughter from the crowd in the Hilton ballroom, as did his subsequent friendly jab at the expense of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, a Cubs fan.
"We choppered in. The speaker said, 'There's the home of the Cubs,'" recounted Bush, referring to Wrigley Field. "I said, well, Mr. Speaker, maybe next year."
The White Sox, despite their victory in October are the third favorite baseball team in Illinois -- behind the Cubs and the Cardinals.
Perhaps Bush is like most Americans -- and was completely unaware Chicago even had a second baseball team until the White Sox made it into the playoffs.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know White Sox fans knew words like "inane."

ReplyDeleteThis shows how much you know about baseball
He owned a American League team called the Texas Rangers....
Ever heard of them?
Anonymous: Bush is also President of the United States, but so far he has demonstrated ignorance of the U.S. Constitution.
ReplyDeleteWhen is the parade for being cute and popular? Do you expect it will tie up traffic?
ReplyDeleteBush made a funny with his CBOT/Hook 'Em joke too (wonder who wrote that one for him). But he's still a disaster.
Get over your jealousy. It will set you free.
