Fast food bad for political health
Cross-posted at Lincoln’s Logs
The Feds are at it again, this time looking at whether or not fast food chains linked to Tony Rezko received “lucrative leases” at the newly opened tollway oases.
According to Joseph Ryan of the Daily Herald:
Federal prosecutors are examining exactly how fast-food chains with links to one of Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s top fundraisers landed lucrative leases at the newly opened tollway oases.
A federal grand jury recently subpoenaed an array of information from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority regarding contracts with Subway, Panda Express and other oasis vendors, documents obtained by the Daily Herald show.
This latest subpoena expands U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald’s already wide-ranging probe of state hiring and contracting practices that has tarnished the reform mantra Blagojevich used to win election in 2002.
In addition to the tollway, the state’s transportation department, prison system, child welfare agency and even the governor’s office have been hit with federal subpoenas. Added to the mix are late-summer allegations contained in a federal plea agreement that Blagojevich and two top fundraisers devised a scheme to reward campaign donors with consulting fees and investment deals at the suburban and downstate teachers pension fund, a charge the administration steadfastly denies.
And this all comes as Blagojevich heads into an election year after promising voters he’d change “business as usual.”
Well, just what Rod needed before launching his re-election campaign, another Federal Investigation. Will the Governor ever realize that Rezko is a cancer on his administration?

The governor is the cancer and people like Rezko is just the small tumors growing out of the cancer. One more reason we need to remove him from office.
When are people going to take their heads out of the sand and face the truth?
It wasn't Blagojevich, it was Rezko "acting on his own"?
It wasn't Daley, it was those dirty guys at Intergovernmental Affairs "acting on their own"?
BULLDINKEY!!!!!
I believe the cancer has metastised into the entire body politic of Illinois long ago, and Rezko is merely another tumor.
Fitzgerald is the chemo & radiation, but still may not be able to save the patient.
The patient may need a resurrection. It's called a Constitutional Convention, and the new body needs more empowered individuals (red & white blood cells) and less and smaller bloated organs (government entities)
Stop me before I stretch the metaphor further!!!
And so it goes, on and on and on...
RGod is just keeping a campaign promise. It is no longer business as usual, it is worse. At least he kept his word on that one.
Rezko's cancer is represented in state government by his former business associates, like Jack Lavin, who have haven't fallen far from the tree. The next phase of this investigation while likely go after Lavin at DCEO, which he has made even more corrupt than under Ryan.
Looks like BrickHeadJoe Brickett has put a big "The End" on this probe with his blurt to the Suntimes:

DuPage County state's attorney Joseph Birkett said he plans to provide federal investigators with any information he's already collected in his office's civil investigation of the lease deals.
Birkett, who has teamed with gubernatorial candidate and current state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka to run against Blagojevich, said his probe is looking at whether the tollway's contract with Wilton Partners to operate oases is aimed at circumventing state laws requiring competitive bidding on concession contracts.
Birkett said there isn't enough information available to prove wrongdoing yet, but his investigation continues.

Nice Going Brick. Had you not stepped on your doinker (AGAIN) this story might have lasted for a few days!
Good post, A.L. Political connections always make the best egg rolls.
Resko is not profiting but his lawyer Brian Hynes is getting paid, his nephew is the manager, his business partner is doing well and him and Kelly seem to be benefiting the "Corporate" Subway and Panda Express--I would like a month of rent for free for any restaurant at an Oasis on the Tollway. Sleazy and easy. I am voting for Eisendrath.
Look into Brian Hynes LOTS of sleazy stuff there
strip clubs connected to drug dealers and prostitution
Retzko is the money man for Stroger and Blagoyabitch
where is lisa madigan? Zero production.
Brian Hynes and mob connected and Celleni Frank Cortese are the friends and Hynes the lawyer and lobbyist for scumbag money man Resco Antoin Resco is going to rat everyone to the Feds
Funny, on Capitol Fax (the original), unfounded accusations were deleted. On Illinoize, they are all the rage.
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.
The allegations are not unfounded most of them are true.
Actually though Subway and Panda Express don't have bad food.
